Preschool Choir Rehearsal: Starting in Spring 2012 on Sunday mornings This music experience is for 4 - 5 year olds, including Kindergartners and involves the children moving, singing, listening, creating and playing instruments to provide a "hands on" approach to discovering the musical world around them.
Children’s Choir Rehearsal: Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Children’s Music room As part of the wonderful Wednesdays at UBC, this choir is open to 1st - 5th graders. Children learn musical skills such as reading music, rhythm, and choral literature. Boom whackers and creative movement is also a part of this musical experience. The choir sings occasionally in worship services throughout the year.
Youth Choir (Voices on the Hill) Rehearsal: Sundays, 5:00 p.m. Choral Room This choir is open to 6-12 graders and they occasionally participate in morning worship and assist in musical leadership on a designated Youth Sunday. Voices on the Hill sing contemporary and traditional choral music.
Chancel Choir Rehearsal: Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Choral Room This mixed voice choir is the standard choir for worship at UBC. Open to 18 years and older, including university students through senior adults, the Chancel Choir presents seasonal concerts with orchestral chamber ensembles, masterworks, hymn arrangements, contemporary settings and traditional anthems every Sunday.
Adult Handbell Choir Rehearsal: To Be Arranged Sanctuary Ringing five octave handbells and three octave hand chimes, this choir is open to adults 18 years and older. Basic music reading skills are required, but no previous handbell experience is needed, just a willingness to learn.
Instrumentalists From time to time instrumentalists (piano, cello, trumpet, guitar) perform in the worship service by invitation. All instrumentalists should inquire with the Minister of Music and are welcomed!
Music Ministry Leadership Opportunities exist for adults and university students to lead in the Children/Youth musical groups, assist in congregational directing, accompanying from piano or other instrument, or becoming a part of the UBC music ministry, by participating in administrative and creative avenues.

Music Ministry Scholars Description The Music Ministry of University Baptist Church, will offer one $1000 scholarship position to area college students in the academic year of 2011-2012, whose interests are in the ministry of music within the local church. The position allows students to participate in the overall music ministry by singing with an accomplished church choir and participating in one of the following musical responsibilities with children, youth or handbells. The scholars are encouraged to be involved in the college ministry of the church and enjoy the opportunity of fellowship within the University Baptist Church family. Requirements The Music Ministry Scholar must be actively enrolled within an academic institution in the Chapel Hill and Durham areas. Participation requires membership in the Chancel Choir of University Baptist Church and includes weekly rehearsal on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. and Sunday morning worship from 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 noon. This also includes a Christmas presentation, a possible fall retreat, and a Holy Week presentation. The weekly schedule begins Wednesday August 31, 2011, continuing through Sunday December 4th, 2011, then , January 11th through May 6th, 2012. Six absences from rehearsal and six absences from services are permitted with notice given to the Minister of Music, Craig McCoy. Application 1. 2. An audition/interview will be scheduled upon your receipt of your application. The audition requires a prepared solo, sight reading and aural evaluation.
