Worship
Our Worship Style
At University Baptist Church, our worship is shaped by reverence and authenticity. We call it “warm liturgical”—rooted in tradition but open in spirit. We often follow the rhythms of the lectionary. Our services reflect the themes of Scripture, bringing together readings, prayers, and music that invites the whole community into worship.
Our worship draws from a variety of musical traditions. On any given Sunday, you might hear the choir sing Bach, John Rutter, or contemporary arrangements. A soloist may offer a classical piece or a modern worship song. Our congregational singing is grounded in the hymnal and supported by our 22-rank Reuter pipe organ or baby grand piano, though you’ll sometimes hear guitar, mandolin, brass, strings, or woodwinds woven in.
We believe worship is for–and should include–the whole family of God. Children are welcome and cherished. From serving as cross bearers to participating in the children’s sermon and offering special music from time to time, children are part of our worship life. We believe the best way for children to learn how to worship is by experiencing it alongside the adults in their lives.
Ultimately, our aim for worship is depth and sincerity. We believe worship should speak to both the heart and the mind, drawing us into wonder, gratitude, and communion with God and one another.
